Meet Our Team

Tina – Team Leader

Tina is our practice’s team leader. She is well known for her outstanding smile that never seems to stop. Tina greets most of our patients as they arrive at our practice. Tina says that she’s happily chosen Hillsboro Dental Excellence to work for because, “the company is not just about money, it’s about helping people in need”. Because the practice operates on that philosophy, everyone here is completely 100% patient-focused, and that makes it a fulfilling, exciting, and wonderful place to work.”

Tina has been in the dental industry since 2007. She is our patient’s secret weapon for working with insurance companies. Tina will read all your insurance company’s fine print for you, so you don’t have to. She will maximize your benefits to make certain that you will pay as little as possible out of pocket.

Tina is married with three children; her daughters Mirella and Miya, and a son Rodrigo (named after his father). Tina loves camping with her family and any activities involving Oregon’s beaches, lakes, and rivers.

Kelsey – Patient Advocate

I was born, raised, and went to high school in Hillsboro, Oregon. It’s my home. I am so happy to work at Hillsboro Dental Excellence because of the incredible atmosphere and positive emotions created every day by our team. The goal of everyone who joins our team is to be 100% focused on positive attitudes and helping our patients.

Since I work at the front desk, I meet almost all our patients. I really have enjoyed getting to know so many awesome and incredible people. I really love the excitement that comes from everyone on our team being so focused on helping people. When I am not helping patients, I like to stay physically active. I like to hike. I volunteer for my Lacrosse team and for the Portland Marathon.

When I’m not doing any of that, I like hanging out with my two friends, Dennis and Toothless (my cats.)

Breana – Patient Advocate and Dental Assistant

From a very early age, I knew I wanted to help people. I wanted to find a job where I could help people become more confident in themselves. A job where I could help them to smile and be happy. I didn’t realize it for a while, but that job turned out to be dentistry!

I am currently in school to become a certified dental assistant. I’m also training here at Hillsboro Dental Excellence, where I’ve learned so much, and I am so grateful. The knowledge and skills I have learned here have proved invaluable.

Working at Hillsboro Dental Excellence has been so wonderful for me because it allows me to be part of a team that’s completely focused on helping people, the very thing that I have always wanted to do with my life! I love working in an environment that is focused on helping people and taking care of them. I appreciate and respect Dr. Skinner greatly in how he genuinely cares about people. His expertise and ingenuity make him an outstanding dentist. I am proud to be apart of his team.

I am told that I am an adventurous soul. I enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors. Skiing, hiking, backpacking, and fishing are among my hobbies. I am a runner (the longer the distance the better!). I enjoy trying new things, and my favorite food is tacos de pastor.

Diana – Surgical Assistant

I’ve worked as a dental assistant for over 3 years now. Working here at Hillsboro Dental Excellence with Dr. Skinner has been a great experience thus far. I’ve met a lot of dentists, and Dr. Skinner is different than all of them. It’s not just that he is smart, he has unbelievable skills. I have seen him do things with dentistry that I was sure was impossible.

I was the first person in my family to graduate from high school and to graduate from college. I became a dental assistant because I wanted to help people. I didn’t know how I could do that until I discovered my passion.

With Dr. Skinner’s encouragement, eventually, my goal is to go back to school and become a practicing dentist.  Don’t worry, though; whenever that happens, I will be coming right back here to Hillsboro Dental Excellence to work as a dentist after I graduate.  There is no other place I would rather work than here. Besides, I could never leave all my patients!

I am married and have a young son named Jayden. When I’m home, I love to eat food, watch cool movies, and spend time with my family.

Reyna – Restorative Assistant

I Passed the WREB and I have my Restorative License.

I was born in Mexico. My family and I moved to Oregon when I was 6 years old, and I have lived in the Hillsboro area ever since. I am married and have two wonderful children, Damian and Naomi. For fun, I enjoy being outdoors with my family doing things such as camping, hiking, and fishing. I am a licensed restorative assistant, which means that I can place beautiful fillings.

I’ve worked with many dentists, but when I met Dr. Skinner, I knew that I had to be part of his team. His beliefs and compassion truly inspire me and give me hope. It is truly amazing to see someone care about people as much as he does. That was exactly what I had been looking for, for so long. Dr. Skinner has provided me with excellent training and fantastic personal coaching, which has helped me to see life at a whole new level.

At Hillsboro Dental Excellence, our entire team is focused on our patients’ complete satisfaction, and that makes me feel proud. Dr. Skinner will not just hire “anyone” to take care of his patients. When you walk into our office, “you can actually feel the love in the air” that we all have for our patients and each other. I genuinely love working with all my patients. It’s a perfect family atmosphere that really does care about people.  Here at Hillsboro Dental Excellence, “we don’t just transform smiles, we transform lives”.

My journey into dentistry has been different than most. When I was a child, I had eight years of orthodontic treatment. Despite what you might think, I had an amazing dentist that made me curious and ultimately made me love dentistry.

I have been very fortunate to work at Hillsboro Dental Excellence and with Dr. Skinner. He has inspired me to pursue further education and has served as a mentor to me. He is constantly integrating and learning new technologies and procedures, which allows me the chance to further grow and learn as a dental provider.

Along with being a mentor, Dr. Skinner has also allowed me to have complete access to two of the top dental apps that he has developed. One app for pre-dental students to help them prepare to take the DAT exam and another app for practicing dentists. Ultimately, Dr. Skinner has given me a lot of tools to be successful in my future dental school endeavors, and for that I am truly thankful.

I went to school to get my Bachelor of Arts Degree in dental hygiene science. I have worked as a hygienist for some time, including three years where I worked in Germany to provide dental care for U.S. Air Force, Army, Marines, their family members, and retired service members.

This experience, along with working with Dr. Skinner at Hillsboro Dental Excellence, has made me realize that I want to go back to dental school and become a practicing dentist. My plan is to stay at Hillsboro Dental Excellence helping all my wonderful hygiene patients for at least the next two years. Then I am going to investigate attending dental school and perhaps even join the United States Air Force.

I am originally from Montana. I have happily been living in Oregon since 2017. I really like anything outdoors; hiking, fishing, and camping. I love traveling, Yoga, and spending time with my family. I enjoy learning new languages. I currently speak fluent French, some German, and I am working on learning Spanish!

Penny – Licensed Dental Hygienist

I was born in Portland, Oregon, so I’m a Wonderland native. I became a dental hygienist midlife. Because of family obligations, I was not able to go to Hygiene school as early as I would’ve liked.

However, I am persistent, and I never give up. Eventually, I went to Portland community college, midlife, and got my Hygiene license. That’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, and I am so happy that I have finally accomplished that.

The reason that I work at Hillsboro Dental Excellence is really just one reason: “The Team, The Team, The Team.” Everyone here is focused on the patients and their experience. The other reason that I truly like it here is that Dr. Skinner consistently does what’s best for the patient, not what’s best for his pocketbook. I like working with a dentist and a team that puts the patients first, so that’s why I proudly work at Hillsboro Dental Excellence.

If you haven’t been to the dentist for a long time, I want you to know that no one at Hillsboro Dental Excellence will ever judge you for that. Just come in when you’re ready, and we will be happy and grateful that you chose us to help you with your dental health. No one here will guilt you for having other priorities in your life.

I volunteer every year for the Oregon Mission of Mercy in Portland. My personal philosophy in life is to start every day with a smile and end every day with a laugh.

I was born in born Spokane, Washington, and moved to St. Helens, Oregon, at the age of 6 in 1996. Right out of high school, I contemplated on being a registered nurse or a dental hygienist because I knew I was meant to help people. I made the best decision of my life and attended Dental Hygiene school in Portland, Oregon, in 2011. I’ve been on my life’s mission as a hygienist ever since!

I live in St Helens, which is a bit of a commute to Hillsboro. I could work somewhere closer, but Hillsboro Dental Excellence is a world class dental practice, and I get to work with such an amazing team of people. Dr. Skinner is a genuine, down to Earth, and wonderful human being who comes to work each day with a contagious smile. On top of that, I have the best patients in the world, so Hillsboro Dental Excellence has become my second home.

I have many hobbies! One of them includes spending time with my fur baby, Duncan James, who is an 8-year-old pom/chi. I also enjoy several outdoor activities such as 4 wheeling, mushroom hunting, fishing, crabbing, crawdadn’, camping, and much more! I have traveled to Mexico, Belize, Canada, and the Bahamas. I plan on traveling in the next year! I think Europe is next!

I am a real animal lover; I want to save all the animals in the World!

Someday, I would like to become a college professor and teach dental hygiene!

Jaime – Licensed Dental Hygienist

I was born in Portland, Maine and recently moved to Portland, Oregon, in January. Oregon was an appropriate destination, as I love the climate and the social environment, in addition to the opportunities available to me as a healthcare provider on the west coast. As the youngest of four children, I was raised by a pediatrician and a violinist who instilled in me both the importance of health and the reward of hard work. I was influenced into dental care by my grandfather, an inspirational dentist who practiced in Long Island until he retired at age eighty. His dedication and enjoyment of the profession made my career choice a no-brainer.

What draws me and brings me to Hillsboro Dental Excellence is Dr. Skinner’s commitment to his patients. Care without compromise, attentive engagements with patients, and displays of both compassion and empathy toward every individual, equates to excellent dental care provision, state-of-the-art technology aside. Everyone here at Hillsboro Dental Excellence is so kind, compassionate, warm, caring, and fun. Can you imagine looking forward to being at work each day?!

As a child, I decided at the age of 5 to pursue work in the dental field. Having this come to fruition is representative of years of hard work and good fortune. I work hard to enthusiastically implement this in my interactions with and treatment of each individual patient. I am so grateful to be mentored by such a unique dentist as Dr. Skinner and am excited to be a part of this extraordinary and diverse team of healthcare professionals.
